Earth observation via remote sensing is fundamental to understanding spatial and temporal dynamics in natural and human-induced environments. This module focuses exclusively on the physics, platforms, and analytical methods of remote sensing. Students will explore the principles of electromagnetic (EM) radiation, focusing on how different wavelengths interact with the atmosphere and the Earth's surface. The curriculum transitions from the physics of sensing to the operation of active and passive sensors, including multispectral cameras, radar, and laser scanning systems. By applying radiometric and geometric corrections, students will learn to extract meaningful data from raw imagery. Finally, the module emphasizes digital image classification and visual interpretation, providing a strong foundation for integrating advanced machine learning techniques to monitor climate change, environmental degradation, and resource management.
